  • Application Process

    The application for 2021-2022 school year will be available on October 2, 2020. The Baldwin School partners with School and Student Services (SSS), to host our financial aid application. To begin your application, please complete the . You only need to complete one PFS, even if you are applying for multiple children.
     
    Step 1 – Preparing to Apply

      • Technical Considerations.  When applying online, Google Chrome is the recommended browser. The Baldwin School code is 1468. 
      • (2021-2020 Coming Soon). This is a helpful document to read through before you begin the application. Whether this is your first time or you have completed the PFS in the past, it is a valuable guide for you to follow!
      • Information you need to gather. Page 2 of the PFS Workbook provides a handy chart identifying the types of questions you will need to answer and the documentation you will need to access to support your response.  Gathering this information is the best place to start!

     
    Step 2 – Completing your PFS

      • The PFS for the 2021-2022 school year will be available beginning October 2, 2020.
      • Go to the  website and select 
      • Log onto the PFS online.      
      • New Families: If you are applying for the first time, click on the green “Create an Account”. You will be asked to enter your name and email address and to select a password.
      • Returning Families: If you applied last year, enter your login and password from last year in the section titled, “Returning Families.” If you have forgotten your login information, click on “forgot your password.”
      • Begin a PFS for the Academic Year 2021-2022
      • Please use your legal name, as it appears on your Federal Income Tax 1040 form, as well as your daughter’s legal name, as it appears on her birth certificate and Baldwin application for admission. Variations in name, you or your daughter, can result in a delayed evaluation for financial assistance.  
      • Once you begin your PFS, you can complete and submit your information in one sitting or you can save your information and revisit at any time, provided you submit by December 1, 2020. If you choose to complete in one sitting, allow 2 hours to review the resources and collect the information, then another two hours to complete the application.  Remember, it is time well spent!
      • Since the deadline is December 1, 2020, please use your Federal Income Tax form 1040 for 2019 as well as your W-2 statements to enter your income and assets.
      • If you have questions as you complete the PFS, please contact SSS customer service at 800-344-8328.
     
    Step 3 – Pay for and submit your PFS

    Whew! The hard part is over, you have completed your information and now you can submit your PFS. Great job!

    The fee to submit is $55.00 and represents a flat fee, regardless of the number of children or number of schools.  

    Step 4 – Required Documents

    The following documents are required to complete your Parent Financial Statement. These documents are due on or before December 1, 2020.
        1. 2019 IRS Federal 1040 Form
        2. 2019 IRS Federal Schedules (if applicable)
        3. 2019 W-2 Forms (unless self-employed)
        4.  (if applicable)
        5. Please submit this form directly to the Admissions Office.
    The following documents are required by March 1, 2021:
        1. 2020 IRS Federal 1040 Form
        2. 2020 IRS Federal Schedules (if applicable)
        3. 2020 W-2 Forms (unless self-employed)
    After submitting your PFS, you will then have access to a section called “My Documents." Please scan and upload your 2019 1040 tax form and W-2 with the Parent Financial Statement. Please submit your 2020 1040 tax form no later than March 1, 2021 for verification.

    Note: All Financial Aid awards are verified using your Federal Income Tax 1040 form. Baldwin reserves the right to amend financial aid awards in the event the self-reported information on the PFS differs from the information included on the Federal Income Tax 1040 form.

  • Timeline

    October 2:  The  is available online for the 2021-2022 academic year.

      • School Code: The Baldwin School code is 1468.
      • Helpful Hint: Please use your legal name, as it appears on your Federal Income Tax 1040 form, as well as your daughter’s legal name, as it appears on her birth certificate. 

    December 1:      Deadline to submit your PFS online. 

      • Applications received after the December 1 deadline will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. If eligible, awards will be granted depending on availability of funds. You will need to upload your 2019 1040 tax forms and W-2 forms to the School and Student Services portal when you submit your application.
      • Helpful Hint: Do not wait until December 1 to begin your PFS application! Allow yourself plenty of time to assemble the necessary information requested by the PFS and the time to accurately enter the information. 

    January/February:      Notification of Financial Aid decisions will begin.

      • Current families are asked to respond within two weeks of receipt of financial aid award. In the event, we do not hear from you within this time-frame, funds may be rescinded. 
      • New families have until March 1, 2021 to respond, however if you receive your award after March 1, 2021 you are asked to respond within two weeks of receipt of financial aid award. In the event, we do not hear from you within this time-frame, funds may be rescinded.
     
    March 1:  Upload complete 2020 Federal Income Tax form (1040 and all schedules) along with your 2020 W-2 forms to your PFS application.

  • Financial Assistance Policies

    The Baldwin School is committed to helping families from a range of economic backgrounds have access to our education for their daughters. The process serves our mission of providing the Baldwin experience for talented and motivated students.


     

    Criteria used when evaluating the Parents’ Financial Statement 

     

      • Parental responsibility – The primary responsibility for tuition rests with the family. In evaluating financial information, The Baldwin School Financial Aid Committee takes into account the number, ages and schools of children, additional dependents, assets and all sources of income. In addition, we consider lifestyle choices, debts, expenses and spending priorities. Applicants are expected to adhere to all application deadlines. You are responsible for submitting the paperwork on time.
      • Priority - Priority for financial assistance is given to families who complete the Parent Financial Statement accurately, submit all required documentation via the SSS website and adhere to all deadlines. In order to be considered for assistance, you must complete the required paperwork on time.  It is important to maintain your Baldwin account in good standing (“on time”).
      • Need-blind admission - Financial aid decisions are made independently from admissions decisions once an offer of admission has been made. New students must be accepted first through the admission process, and then are considered for financial aid through a separate process.
      • Need-based awards - Financial aid grants are awarded on the basis of a family’s demonstrated financial need. Eligibility for aid is determined by the School’s Financial Aid Committee based on its evaluation of the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) hosted by School and Student Services (SSS) by National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), and a copy of the family’s current and complete Federal Income Tax forms, supporting schedules and W-2 forms
      • Non-working parent – Recognizing that each family bears the primary responsibility for financing education costs, if one parent chooses not to seek employment, the School imputes an annual income for a non-working parent.  Exceptions are made if the parent is caring for a non-school age child or an elderly parent.
      • Confidentiality – Recognizing the sensitivity of personal financial issues, we guarantee the confidentiality of the process and expect families to maintain the confidentiality of any award information, as well
      • Renewal – Financial assistance is evaluated each year based on demonstration of continued financial need, as well as evidence that the recipients continue to exhibit satisfactory academic progress, good citizenship and favorable financial standing with The Baldwin School Business Office.
      • Awarding - Applying for financial assistance does not guarantee that you will be eligible for an award. Nor does being eligible guarantee that there will be financial aid available.


    Divorce or Separation



      • For all families, full participation is expected of both biological parents, stepparents and/or the adults with whom the child lives, has custody or has financial influence and responsibility in the student’s life.
      • In the process of evaluating a family’s financial situation, the financial aid process requires the complete documentation of all parties and the full transparency of all those identified in the categories listed above, regardless of divorce, separation or estrangement.  A financial aid award will not be issued unless we have required information from all parties. 
      • The Baldwin School is not bound by any decrees, agreements or legal documents excusing a parent from financial responsibility for his or her child’s education.

    Lower School:
    • Full Day Pre-K $22,000
    • Kindergarten $24,200
    • Grade 1 $26,200

    Middle School
    • Grades 6 - 8 $35,500
    Upper School
    • Grades 9 - 12 $39,500
    Tuition Includes:
    We are sensitive to the extracurricular costs associated with attendance at Baldwin, which is why we include the following items in the cost of tuition.
      • Lower School: Class trips, class dues, textbooks and supplies. 
      • Middle School: Class trips and class dues. 
      • Upper School: Class trips, class dues, class ring, ring dinner, junior blazer, junior/senior banquet, formal dances, PSAT, basic yearbook ad and graduation.
    Not Included in Tuition:
    Uniforms, Middle and Upper School texbooks, laptop, lunch, certain class fees, certain athletic team fees. International students who have been issued an F-1 Visa will be responsible to pay an annual $3,000 International Student Fee.

  • Tuition Payment Plan

    We offer four tuition payment plans for the 2020 – 2021 academic year: 

    Plan A* - Full Payment Plan
    Pay the full year tuition on or before July 1, 2020.

    Plan B* – Two Payment Plan
    This plan allows for payment of tuition charges in two installments. Payment of 60% is due in July of 2020 and the remaining 40% is due in December of 2020. 

    Plan C*- Ten Month Payment Plan
    The Baldwin School partners with SmartTuition to provide you with this affordable and convenient option. This plan allows you to pay 10 monthly installments beginning in June 2020 and continuing through March 2021. No interest charges are associated with this plan. Selection in this plan requires enrollment in the Tuition Fee Insurance Plan, as well as a SmartTuition maintenance fee.

    Plan D* - Twelve Month Payment Plan
    Partnering with SmartTuition, this plan allows you to pay 12 monthly installments beginning in April 2020 and continuing through March 2021. No interest charges are associated with this plan. Selection in this plan requires enrollment in the Tuition Fee Insurance Plan, as well as a SmartTuition maintenance fee.

    *The $2,000 non-refundable enrollment deposit will be credited against total tuition charges.
